In our literacy lessons we have been looking at fictional writing. As Halloween has just been, we decided to write a horror story. We have been trying really hard to use better vocabulary, and have been using 'magpie books' to help us with that. Have a read through some of our stories. What do you think?
Every year on the 11th day, at the 11th hour of the 11th month, millions of people take two minutes of silence to remember people who were killed, injured and effected in wats. The reason why we remember at this time is because in 1918 WW1 ended. We wear poppies as we are REMEMBERING those people who died for their country. Poppies are used because these are the flowers that grew on the battlefields! Don't forget to remember the British soldiers! Today we have been raising money for Children in Need. Children came to school in yellow/spots and messy hair, or a combination of all three! Don't they look fabulous?
We have raised an amazing amount of £231, which will be donated to the charity. Thank you for your kind donations! Here is today's science experiment. We have been investigating friction, trying to find out what surfaces produce the most friction. We received a letter from Usain Bolt, asking us to test a variety of surfaces such as tarmac, grass, carpet and lino, for his new running track. We found out that the tarmac and the carpet produced the most friction, and that tarmac would be perfect for his new running track!
Today we have been to Newton Aycliffe to learn how to be safe in different environments. We completed activities in the following areas: water safety, electrical safety, fire safety, road safety, internet safety and basic first aid. We had a great day, which one was your favourite activity?

I know that some of you have already been online to see some of the pictures that Tanfield Lea uploaded from their week at Howtown. If you have not had a look at them yet click on the link below. If you would like to leave a comment on any of the pictures, make sure that you think carefully about your writing. Make sure you write how we write in school (capital letters, full stops and no text talk like OMG and LOL).Finally, check your comments through before submitting. Comments with i (instead of I), no capital letters or full stops suggest you haven't spent time on checking your work. If you do all of the things above, your comment will be published.
Below are some sentence openers that you could use when commenting on work and/or photographs: 1. I really like where you used '......' because...... 2. My favourite part was ......................... 3. It would be even better if ...................... This week year 6 have visited the Lake District, to take part in an outdoor pursuits activity week. Brandon joined forces with Tanfield Lea primary school, and spent the week doing lots of challenging and fun activities. Take a look through our photographs to see what we got up to.On day one we were separated into 5 teams, with around 10 people in each team. Our first activity was the jog and dip. We all got very wet! After that one of the teams went caving, some of us got particularly muddy! The other team took part in team building exercises. On day two, the teams got their equipment for the day. One of the teams went rock climbing and Ghyll scrambling (climbing up a waterfall). The other team went for a long walk up a large hill. They also got the steamer across Lake Ullswater. On Wednesday, Team Arkess took part in some orienteering and caving. Everyone tried their best, and managed to squeeze through some very tiny tunnels. After that we went canoeing, where some of us had to change positions and stand up in the canoes. On our final full day team Arkess climbed Place Fell which stood around 600m above sea level! They were outstanding all the way to the top, and were the only team that managed to get to the top. The other team went canoeing in the morning, and took part in bush craft activities. They had fun building their own shelters. Then to finish off, all of the teams roasted marshmallows around a campfire, and sang lots of songs. Year 6 have had an amazing week. We have made lots of new friends, tried lots of fantastic activities and have seen some amazing views. Which are your favourite pictures?
As part of our history topic we visited Beamish museum. We looked at a Victorian school, went down a mine and even bought some old fashioned sweets! |
